MINDFULNESS IMPROVES WORK PERFORMANCE AND SATISFACTION

Mindfulness, a practice rooted in ancient traditions, has gained significant traction in modern workplaces as organisations seek to enhance productivity and employee well-being. Mindfulness involves cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgmental acceptance, which can have profound effects on individuals’ mental, emotional, and physical states. In the fast-paced and often stressful environments of today’s workplaces, integrating mindfulness practices can lead to numerous benefits. The impact of mindfulness on workplace productivity is substantial. By promoting enhanced focus and attention, mindfulness can help employees perform tasks more efficiently and reduce distractions. Additionally, it can foster stress reduction and resilience, leading to better decision-making and problem-solving abilities. As a result, employees may experience improved time management and prioritisation, contributing to overall productivity. Beyond productivity, mindfulness also plays a key role in employee well-being. Regular mindfulness practices can lead to reduced anxiety and depression, improved emotional regulation, and greater resilience. Physically, employees may experience lower blood pressure and improved sleep quality, contributing to overall health. Moreover, mindfulness can enhance job satisfaction and engagement by fostering better interpersonal relationships, teamwork, and motivation.

Study 1, a two-wave study, and Study 2, an experience sampling study, show that mindfulness is related to reduced stress via decreased threat task appraisal, but not through enhanced challenge appraisal. Taken together, our findings suggest that mindfulness can reduce stress at work because it helps employees view work tasks less as a threat.
